Darryl “Mo” Herbert Nieman, age 77, passed away at his home is St. Helen on December 30, 2017 surrounded by his family and friends. Mo was born on December 18, 1940 in Mt. Clemens, MI to Herbert and Evelyn (Vanker) Nieman . Mo had lived in St. Helen since 2004 previously of Utica. Mo retired from the Utica Fire Department, and the Utica Community Schools. He was a member of the West Branch Eagles and the St. Helen Carving Club. Mo was an accomplished wood carver and has won many awards. He loved golf, wood carving, boating, snowmobiling and traveling. Most of all he loved his family and friends and of course his dogs Schatze, and Annie. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Darryl is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Nieman of St. Helen; children David (Sue) Nieman of Shelby Twp. Christine (Andrew) Sowa of Saline; grandchildren Jessica Nieman, Isabella Sowa, and Wyatt Sowa. Also surviving is a sister Diane (Gerald) Baumgarten.
Visitation for Darryl will begin Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 2-9PM at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home 702 N. St. Helen Road, St. Helen, MI 48656. There will be a memorial held later in the spring with a burial of his ashes.
