Daniel Stephen “O.T.” Koscielski age 76, of West Branch, “Clear Lake”, formerly of Saginaw, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 after a yearlong battle with cancer. Daniel was born in Bay City, May 1, 1932. He retired from Gray Iron Foundry in Saginaw after 30 years. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church of St. Helen and the American Legion Post #416, St. Helen. Daniel served on the USS Gilbert Island 1951 thru 1955. He was a member of the Carrollton Athletic Association. Dan loved to hunt, fish, play euchre, do crosswords, most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife of 57 years and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are his wife Joann, children, Karen (Rick) Bierd of AuGres, Dave Koscielski of Germfask, Bill (Delores) Koscielski of Manton, Gary Koscielski of Carrollton, Daniel Koscielski of Holland, Amy (Kevin) Schempp of Saginaw, grandchildren, Rick Bierd, Kelli Groya, Pete Bierd, Luke Koscielski, John Koscielski, Kristi Galus, Gillian Levi, Kathy Koscielski, Joey Koscielski, Emily Schempp, Alex Schempp, 9 great-grandchildren, Ava Bierd, Max and Sophie and baby Groya, Ike, Jed and Gracie Koscielski, Karis Galus, Sean and Hakvin Levi. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Geraldine Schiell of Bay City and Paulette (Tom) Bromberg of Bay City and a brother, Terry (Barbara) Koscielski of Bay City and a brother and sister in law Hank and Dolores Retting of Saginaw and many nieces and nephews. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will begin on Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 3-8 p.m with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at St.Helen Catholic Church. Fr. Richard Seifferly will officiate with burial following at Fairview Cemetery, St. Helen. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their care they gave to Daniel and his family.
