Curtis Rivard

Curtis Rivard, age 78 of Gladwin, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018 at home with family by his side. Curt was born to Orville and Leslie Rivard on July 21, 1940 in Detroit, MI. Curt married Elaine Sevcech on August 6, 1960 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Chesaning, MI. He has lived in Gladwin since 2014, formerly of Byron, MI. Curt owned Mr. B’s Grocery Stores from 1975-1999. He was also owner of Lakeshore Village since 1982. Curt was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years and received many awards during that time. Curt took two crews of boys to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and was instrumental in helping many scouts achieve the rank of Eagle, including two of his sons and three of his grandsons. Curt was on the school board for 13 years in Byron, MI. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gaines, MI and presently St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch. Curt enjoyed woodworking and being able to help out others, no matter what project they were doing. Curt was very well respected and had a great sense of humor. He really loved being up north and providing a special gathering place for his family.

Curt is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Rivard of Gladwin, son, Mark (Karen) Rivard of Whitmore Lake, MI, son, Kurt Rivard of Naperville, IL, daughter, Kathryn Zanolli of Beverly Hills, MI, son, Kevin (Robin) Rivard of Cañon City, CO, son, Corey (Michelle) Rivard of Scottsdale, AZ, son, Keith (Neda) Rivard of Vancouver, BC, 17 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Olive (Jerry) Cupal of Sebewaing, MI, Sue Tickel of Centerville, OH and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister.

Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church will be celebrated on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. Father Emmanuel Finbarr will officiate. Burial will take place on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Gaines, MI at 12:00 PM.
