Clyde Sheltrown Jr., age 94, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at his home in West Branch. He was born on December 21, 1926 in Bay City, MI to Clyde and Ollie (Priddy) Sheltrown Sr. Clyde lived in West Branch for most of his life. On June 14, 1947, he married Edith Hanes in West Branch.
Clyde graduated from West Branch High School in 1945 and attended Michigan State University for agriculture courses. He served on the Ogemaw County Road Commission Board and as an Ogemaw County Commissioner for many years. He was a member of the Ogemaw Council on Aging, the National Farmers Union in the 1970’s and sold real estate with Century 21.
Clyde began farming at a young age and farmed in Edwards Township for most of his life. He was a dairy, beef and cash crop farmer. His favorite part of farming was driving the tractors. He enjoyed square dancing, dancing at the senior center, playing softball after high school for Edwards Township, snowmobiling, deer hunting and pheasant hunting. He would travel to South Dakota with his brother, Ed, for a week each year to go hunting. He also traveled to Vegas and Hawaii for vacations with Grover and Katie Zettle Jr. Clyde enjoyed talking politics and always loved helping others.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Edith Sheltrown of West Branch; children, Verna (Michael) Ehinger of West Branch, Jane Sheltrown (Al Crawford) of West Branch, Chris (Kathy) Sheltrown of West Branch, Pam (Dan) Bruder of West Branch, Rose (Ken) Maurer of Herndon, PA, Kim (Dave) Faber of West Branch, Clay Sheltrown of West Branch and Tony (Shelly) Sheltrown of West Branch; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Wade of Bradenton, FL and Leona Hayes of Higgins Lake, MI; caregiver, Pam Dolsen; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Myrtle and Doris, brothers, Rudy and Ed, and grandson, Peter Ehinger.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Edwards Township Hall in West Branch.
