October 28, 1936 — April 18, 2013

Charlie Jay Schagel, age 76 of Prescott, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at his home. Charlie was born on the farm on State Road in Prescott and was a proud owner and operator of the Schagel’s Dairy Farm, a 4th generation Centennial Farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fixing tractors and working on the farm. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charlie is survived by his daughters, Vicki (Mark) Rau of West Branch, Kathy (Doyle) David and Pam (Tony) McArthur both of Prescott and Rose Shiel of Escanaba, his grandchildren Christen (Travis) Ockerman, Michael (Jackie) Rau and Kelli Rau, Greg (Sharon) David, Jenny Schmitt, Deven (April) David, Janelle Brindley, Kelby Brindley, Hayden Brindley and Kenneth Shiel, and his great-grandchildren, Rayleigh Ockerman, Westyn Ockerman, Kenley Rau, Kyler Schmitt, Karter Schmitt, Kade Schmitt, Grant David, Gage David, Gavin David, Logan Denby, Vanessa Noffsinger, Michael Noffsinger, and Nathan Noffsinger. Also surviving is his sister Eva Mae Loomis and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila Joyce Schagel, his parents, Elmer Jay and Lillian Elizabeth (Cox) Schagel, his brother Lawrence “Bud” Schagel, son-in-law, Troy Brindley, and brother-in-law Jack Loomis. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 5-9 p.m. and Monday from 3-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the funeral home. Norman Miller will officiate with burial following at Selkirk Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family.
