Charles Alvin Gilligan

Charles Alvin Gilligan, 82, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at The Brook of West Branch with his family by his side. He was born on September 29, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan to Charles R. Gilligan and Frances P. (Kramer) Gilligan. He worked as a manufacturing engineer of medical equipment at 3M (formerly Sarns, Inc.) until he retired in 1994.

Charlie married the love of his life, Erlene Ann (Rohlf) Gilligan, on May 16, 1959 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They spent over 20 winters in Ruskin, Florida together. Charlie enjoyed woodworking with his wife along with bowling, golfing, fishing, and hunting. Charlie especially loved watching football. He never missed a U of M football game. Charlie will be remembered as the social butterfly of his family, he loved visiting with everyone he came in contact with.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Erlene; their children, Cathy (Steve) Droope of Oscoda and Mike (Liz) Gilligan of Lupton. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kelly (Nathan) Robinson and Stacey (Robert Denstedt) Gilligan, as well as his great-grandchildren, Gavin, Caleb, Colton, and Logan. Charlie is also survived by all of his siblings, George (Mary) Gilligan, Jim (Phila) Gilligan, Sandie Hogue, Denny (Sheri) Gilligan, and Vickie (Steve) Martin and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

There will be no service at this time. Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider a donation to Compassus Hospice of West Branch.
