Carmella Fay Shiel

Carmella Fay Shiel, age 93, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 at her home in St. Helen, MI with her loving family by her side. Carmella was a lifelong resident of Roscommon, living her last 66 years in the Keno community where she was a good neighbor and friend to all. She was born on March 11, 1923 in Detroit, MI to Ralph Hyslop and Grace Keene, but raised by Truman and Grace Gardner. Carmella managed the cafeteria at Kirtland Community College for 18 years. She was an active member at the Community Baptist Church for many years. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, crafts, knitting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Carmella was a beloved mother and is survived by daughters Kay Shiel, Ann Church, and Sue (Jerry) Hughes, by son Donald (AnSun) Shiel, and her brothers, Dick and Leon (Sandy) Gardner. In addition she leaves behind eight, dearly loved, grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Guy Shiel and her eldest son Gary Shiel.

Visitation will begin at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen, MI on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., at the St. Helen Community Baptist Church. Pastor Ken Peterson will officiate. Burial will be at Richardson Cemetery in Roscommon, MI.
