Betty Ruth Owen, age 83 of Houghton Lake, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw after a brief illness. She was born June 4, 1921 in Kochville Township, Saginaw MI, the daughter of the late William and Ada (Bow) Luplow. She had lived in Houghton Lake since 1998. She married Charles Owen on September 5, 1944, he survives her. Betty was a homemaker and a very devoted wife and mother. She loved nature, watching beautiful birds, ducks, deer and turkeys from her big bay window. She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church of Saginaw and after moving to Houghton Lake six years ago, she became a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of West Branch. Surviving besides her husband Chuck is her son Steve of Houghton Lake, a brother Harold Luplow of Freeland and a sister Jean (Carl) Briggs of Houghton Lake, a nephew Robert (Debbie) Briggs of Clare and niece Carol (Dale) Lee of Mobile AL. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Luplow. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Tuesday November 30, 2004 from 3-5 P.M. and 6-9 P.M. On Wednesday, Betty will lie in state at the Calvary Baptist Church in West Branch from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Tom Teall will officate with burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider contributions to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund in West Branch. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
