Bessie M. Calvin, age 100, passed away Thursday February 24, 2005. She had been ill since May of 1998 and a resident of Bortz Health Care in Rose City. Bessie was born May 18, 1904 in Hicksville, Ohio the daughter of John and Rosa Knisely. She married Albert E. Calvin in 1923 in Monroe, Michigan. Mr. Calvin died in July of 1990. Their home, family and devotion to Christian love had been the sustaining factor in their marriage. They moved from Toledo in 1930 to Monroe. Bessie left Monroe in August of 1997 to make a home with her son Larry and wife Maxine in West Branch. She was a member of the Monroe Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and served in many different capacities, especially youth work. Besides a homemaker, she was employed as a home nurse for several years. Bessie is survived by her three sons, V. Jack Calvin and Leroy Calvin both of Monroe and Larry Calvin of West Branch. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, many great-great grandchildren and her sister Lelah Knecht of Munising. Visitation at the Rupp Funeral Home in Monroe will begin on Sunday February 27, 2005 from 1-8 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Rev. Eugene White will officiate with burial following at Roselawn Cemetery, Monroe.
