Ben Nelson Winter

Ben Nelson Winter, age 82, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City, MI. He had lived in West Branch, MI his entire life. Ben was born to Clarence and Beatrice (Matthews) Winter on September 23, 1932 in West Branch. On May 25, 1957, Ben married Yvonne Babcock in Roscommon, MI at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Ben was a member of the K of C Council #2022, St. Joseph Catholic Church, and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed dancing, being in the woods, boating, fishing in Canada, hunting rabbits, taking care of his cows, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ben is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Yvonne Winter of West Branch; children, Pam (Dave) Walker, Tim (Mary) Winter, Benny Winter, and Julie Winter all of West Branch; grandchildren, Eileen (Marc) North, Dan (Kasha) Walker, Andrew Walker, Emily (Jeff Schmitt) Walker, Rachel (Justin) Ackerman, Craig (Brittany Hasse) Winter, Jason (Maleasa) Winter, Jennifer (Tim) Johnson, Justin Manthey, Reese and Reanne Rau; great grandchildren, Ciarra Winter, Sutton Ackerman, and Trent Winter; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Alice Cornelius.

Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There will be a Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. On Monday, August 10, 2015, Ben will lie in state at St. Joseph Catholic Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life Mass at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Father Patrick Maher will officiate.
