Barbara J. Jenkins, age 68, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona. Barbara lived in St. Helen for most of her life, formerly of Genesee County, and spent her winter months in Apache Junction, AZ. Barbara was born to Angus and Carmen (Barnfield) Franklin on August 13, 1945 in Pontiac, MI. She worked at Ford’s Hardware, now known as Gilroy’s Hardware, for about ten years in Prudenville, MI. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed spending time being on the water. Barbara married Albert Jenkins on August 31, 1963 at the St. Helen Community Baptist Church. Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Albert Jenkins of St. Helen, MI; children: Renee Jenkins of Montrose, MI, Sandra and her husband Howard Hebert of Jacksonville, FL; and cousin: Pamela Noren. She is preceded in death by her father: Angus Franklin and mother: Carmen Richards. She graduated from Roscommon High School in 1963 with her very special friends “The Suwannee River Ladies” with whom she remained close friends. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will begin on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Maple Valley Cemetery in St. Helen. Pastor Ken Peterson will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St. Phoenix, AZ 85014 or the American Cancer Society.
