Arthur E. Short, 84, of Lupton passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2005 at home surrounded by his family. Mr. Short was born on April 18, 1921 in Hill Township, Ogemaw County, Michigan to Clarence and Henrietta (Rehil) Short. He spent 2 years in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Camp Luzerne. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On June 7, 1945 he married Donna Jane Parker in Detroit, Michigan. Upon leaving the military he lived briefly in Jackson, MI later moving to his present home in Lupton. He was employed by the Department of Natural Resources, Forestry Division, in Roscommon for 27 years. After his retirement he enjoyed working at his sawmill and farming. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Donna Jane Short; children, Roxanne (Dan) Benjamin of Rose City, Randy (Jane) Short of West Branch, Patti (Lee) Ward of Alger, and Cindy Short of Mason; fifteen grandchildren, Carina (Dale) Ellis, Chris, Michael, Alicia, Becky, David, Jon and Joe Benjamin; Jeremy (Maria), Jason (Debby) and Randy Short, Ben and Liz Chamberlain; Darian and Jenelle Neubecker; and fifteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Walter (Almina) Short of Hale and Gordon (Vivian) Short of Florida; sisters, Shirley Smith of Hale, and Vivian (Robert) Greene of Hale. Also he leaves his special dogs, Mama and Meggie. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Lloyd; and sister, Frances Thayer. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caregivers from the District Health Department #2. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will begin on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 from 2-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the funeral home. Alexander Parker II will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family for the creation of the Arthur E. Short College Scholarship Fund.
