Arthur Charles Galea, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City, MI. He was born on June 17, 1925 in Detroit, MI to Michael and Josephine (Mamo) Galea. He lived in West Branch, MI since 1976, formerly of Detroit.
Art graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in Detroit and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in WWII. When he was honorably discharged from the service, he married the love of his life, Sharon Pattenson on February 15, 1947. Together they built a family, businesses and enjoyed traveling.
Art began working in the farming industry in Caro, MI. He was a city bus driver for the City of Detroit, worked in loans and finance insurance field, in a furniture store, doing electrical work and was employed as a factory worker at a foundry. Art was a successful businessman and best known for his family business, G’s Pizzeria. His family now operates 7 locations located throughout the state of Michigan.
Art was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch. He never missed a holiday, weekday, or a mass on the weekend. Art was one of the most faithful members of the church.
He enjoyed traveling in his motorhome and spending time with his family. Christmas was a very special holiday for Art and his family. He has provided decorating his home with Christmas lights for the community to enjoy for many years.
Art is survived by his sons, Michael (Cynthia) Galea of Sterling Heights, Alfred (Patricia) Galea of Macomb Township, Mark (Julia) Galea of Kalkaska, Christopher (Martha) Galea of West Branch, Paul (Nancy) Galea of East Tawas; daughter, Donna (Brad) Urbach of Houghton Lake; 24 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; and his dog, Prince.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sharon, son, Matthew, granddaughter, Ashley, and brothers, Edward and Richard.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial with veteran honors will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Father Emmanuel Finbarr will officiate.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Caring Pregnancy Center and the St. Joseph Catholic School Endowment Fund.
