Arnold Herbert Beyerlein was born April 8, 1921 in Millington, MI to Arthur and Elsie (Brenner) Beyerlein. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in West Branch since 1940, and also served as past president, secretary, treasurer and elder. Arnold graduated from the New Haven High School, New Haven, MI, Northeastern College of Business in Bay City, and School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. After college he worked for the Michigan State Police Post in Lansing until he entered the United States Army Air Corps. He served in England for 2½ years as a Staff Sergeant. Arnold was mayor of Rose City from 1980-1986 and served on the city council. He was a member of the Lions Club since 1959, a member of the DAV and VFW since 1945, and was the “Veteran of the Year” in 1999. He worked for State Savings Bank of West Branch and Farmers & Merchants State Bank of Rose City, and was a real estate agent and managed the Town & Country Apartments. Arnold married Betty Diehl June 7, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church in West Branch. They have seven children, Kathy (Bill) Curtis of Rose City, Bill (Karen) Beyerlein and Diane (Allen) Philbrick both of West Branch, Judy (Bob) Bernard of Macomb, Sandy (Randy) Buck and Bob (Karen) Beyerlein both of Lupton and Rhonda (John) Copeland of Rose City, 11 grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Viola Baade of New Haven, Gladys Spaller of Gaylord, Verna Bultynek of New Baltimore, and Ella Beyerlein of Rochester, and a special pet Max. He was preceded in death by his brother Elmer Beyerlein. Visitation for Arnold will begin Saturday June 21, 2008 from 2-9PM at the Steuernol and McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City. The funeral will be held June 22, 2008 at 3:30 PM at the St. John Lutheran Church in West Branch, MI. Pastor Howard Travis will officiate. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Brookside Cemetery. The Ogemaw County Veterans Alliance will participate. Memorial Contribution may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands or St. John Lutheran Church.
