Allen Clarence Walz, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 15, 2018 at his home in West Branch. Al has been a resident of West Branch for the past 3 years previously of Fairview, MI. He was born on March 10, 1931 in Detroit, MI to Oscar and Myrtle Walz. Al was a faithful charter member and trustee of the Calvary Baptist Church in Mio, MI. He truly enjoyed going to church and helped in any way possible. Al worked as a butcher and was the head of the meat department at the A&P grocery store in Alpena , MI and retired in the early 1970’s . After retirement he started his own taxidermy business, later on he became a partner and eventually owner of Hilde Taxidermy in Clarkson, MI specializing in African Safari mounts and deer heads. Al also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Allen is survived by his loving wife Jane Walz of West Branch, son Karl (Kim) Walz of Ossineke, daughter Vicki (AJ) Brookshear of Weidman, son Rick Spencer of Arizona, and son Jason (Colleen) Spencer of West Branch. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren Steven, Amanda, Kylie, Ricki Lynn, Jamie, Ashley, Jeff, Cory, Zackery, Martha, Leighann, and Jeremy, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 brothers Rod, and Dexter. He is preceded in death by sons Mike and, Jeff, sisters Mary, Evelyn, Irene and brothers Lee, and Bud, and granddaughter Kaitlyn Rose.
A memorial luncheon service is scheduled for Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 12:00pm at the Calvary Baptist Church 825 E. Miller Rd, Mio Michigan. Inurnment will follow at the Selkirk cemetery in West Branch at 4:00PM. Pastor John Manning will officiate.
Memorial Contribution can be made to the Calvary Baptist Church in Mio.
