Alice Martha Rau passed away May 9, 2016 at the age of 90. She was born on April 28, 1926 in Ogemaw County at home to George and Inez (Pray, nee Dolly) Yantz. Alice graduated from St. Joseph High School and married her high school sweetheart, Hugh Rau, Jr. on January 15, 1946. She worked for Michigan Bell for 21 years and was the Chief Operator for 15 of those years until dial conversion. Following her retirement, together with her husband, Hugh(Buster), owned and operated Rau Tavern. She was a member of the St. Joseph Church and CCW. Her favorite pastimes were pheasant & deer hunting, trout & ice fishing, snowmobiling in the Upper Peninsula and bus trips. She was a lifetime Detroit Tigers fan.
Hugh and Alice enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Alice was an excellent cook and was always eager to try new recipes.
She was predeceased by her parents, George & Dolly Yantz, her husband, Hugh, her son, Gary, brothers, Archie, Raymond, and Anthony, and sister, Martha Yantz. Surviving family members include brother, Lawrence Yantz, Virgil Yantz, nephew, Anthony(Renee) Yantz, nephew, Gary Yantz, Virginia Anderson, Marcia(Jeff) Young and Debbie(Ron)Dale.
The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 10:00 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM until time of Mass. Father Patrick Maher will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ogemaw County Veteran Alliance Building Fund or St. Joseph School Playground Fund.
