Aldon “Al” John Dowd, age 81 of Gladwin passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Mid Michigan Medical Center in Gladwin. He was born on May 26, 1928 in Flint to Lula and Ira Dowd. He grew up in Flint and attended St. Mary’s High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1952. Al married Evelyn Irene Marshall on June 26, 1954. He worked for the City of Flint for a number of years before moving to Warren and working for General Motors. He retired in 1986 and spent the past 23 years in Gladwin, relaxing and watching TV. He also enjoyed the trips he made to the Copper Country and talked about them often. Al is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Gladwin, children; Greg (married to Terry) born in 1955 and passed away in 2002, Kevin (married to Jennifer), born in 1959, Colette (married to Jim Ford) born in 1961 and Tim (married to Lana) born in 1964. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Jennifer (Dean), Jeremiah, Jedediah, Matthew (Sarah), Brad, Andrew, Daniel and Emily and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine and brothers, Donald and Clark. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from 1-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Fr. Robert Bissot will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
