Craig E. Funsch age 54 passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Craig lived in West Branch for the past 31 years previously of Clio. He retired from the Whittemore-Prescott Schools after 23 years of service. Craig coached wrestling and football at both Whittemore-Prescott and Ogemaw Heights. At Whittemore-Prescott, he coached multiple team and individual wrestling state champions. Craig loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He enjoyed his many friends and loved spending time with his family especially his granddaughters. Craig is survived by his wife Ruth of West Branch, children Joshua (Heather) Funsch of Saginaw, Courtney Funsch and her daughters Anna and Ayla of Charlevoix and Andrew Funsch of Alma. Also surviving are his brothers, Leo “Jink” (Linda) Funsch of Grand Blanc and Matthew Funsch of Swartz Creek and his sisters, Laura (Mark) Bauer of Mancelona and Flushing, Julia (Ralph) Farr of Millington and Mary (Dan) McCann of Birch Run. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Virginia (Welch) Funsch and a brother Joseph. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home will begin on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 6-9 p.m. and Thursday from 12-9 p.m. The Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch. Fr. Patrick Maher will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Craig Funsch Scholarship Fund.
